Three feisty black kittens were rescued from a fishing boat in the Hout Bay harbour this week; the little kittens are learning to trust humans before being put up for adoption.

Hout Bay, South Africa (07 September 2022) – Over the centuries, cats and boats have always been synonymous with each other. A cat on a boat means that cargo is protected from rodents. However, finding a litter of kittens on a modern-day fishing vessel can be quite a surprise.

The captain of a fishing vessel in Hout Bay found a litter of little black kittens onboard and called DARG to help collect the feisty little things. DARG quickly sent a team out to rescue the kittens.

“The DARG Team to the rescue! We received a call about tiny kittens in distress at the Hout Bay harbour. The terrified kittens were on a fishing boat and were not happy about being handled. They are now in foster and with a bit of TLC they will learn humans equal good things. Wishing all our supporters a positive week.”

The tale is a hopeful one as the kittens become socialised and cared for while growing up in foster care before finding their forever homes.

We hope when they do get adopted; families will give them appropriate names like “Sailor”, “Kitsea”, and the likes. What is a sea-related cat name you love?

Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG) is an animal rescue group based in Hout Bay, Western Cape. The organisation is pro-life, which rescues, cares for, sterilises and re-homes abused, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs.
