We love the musical performances put on by the Drakensberg Boys Choir, and their upcoming release is said to be the biggest yet.

Durban, South Africa (13 June 2022) – The Drakensberg Boys Choir never disappoints, and now they are hinting at one of their most notable performances to come. The choir is currently in Durban to shoot a new video, and they took to Facebook to share the news of an upcoming music video.

“On our way to Umhlanga to shoot our biggest video to date… watch this space! Exciting release happening soon!!!”

The choir helped many people through the last two years, and even though, at times, they were separated by the pandemic, they continued to inspire South Africans through music.

Because their latest posts hints at the biggest video shoot to date, we thought we would have a look at some of our favourite performances that have been shared since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

A Cappella – Smile – June 2020

“This is the second song which was produced in its entirety during our national lockdown with the boys at their homes. We thought this song perfectly captures the spirit of our human response to the pandemic, full of melancholy, yet extremely hopeful and positive. “There’s a time, you can keep on trying; smile, what’s the use of crying…”

Memories – March 2022

The young men took a look back at all the memories and toast to all the school’s “old boys”. The song has a sad yet timely double meaning as well. While it serves as a dedication to the old boys and staff of the school, it also serves as a dedication to anyone who has lost someone dear to them in this devastating time the world is going through.

A Prayer for South Africa – July 2021

One can always count on the Drakensberg Boys Choir to unite us through their music. The choir, spread throughout South Africa during the Level 4 Lockdown, came together to perform a traditional Xhosa Prayer to inspire unity and hope.

Fun and laughter with the Sharks – March 2022

The Sharks joined the Drakensberg Boys Choir for some fun at the stadium, including a bit of song and dance; we love it!

We will have to wait and see what their next big song will be. Does anyone have any guesses? We will be sure to let you know as soon as they release it.
