The 10c, 20c, and 50c coins you have laying around may be too small to use but they add up for charities; the Brakpan SPCA show just how every cent counts.

Brakpan, South Africa (18 July 2022) – The Brakpan SPCA have several coin tins at locations within their community. The tins are the perfect place for small coins that take up space. They recently collected the tins and managed to raise thousands. This is proof that every cent counts!

As South Africans are moving away from cash in general, small change is losing its place in our purses and wallets. Small change takes up space, and you need a lot of it to make a purchase. Most people tend to have a jar at home where they keep the coins that are valuable but not needed until a large quantity has been collected, or, they simply put their coins into a collection tin at the till.

The Brakpan SPCA were blown away at how many coins they counted. They opened the tins and sorted the coins into types. Ten, twenty and fifty-cent coins were organised and then counted.

“When we say every cent helps, we literally mean it.

After doing a collection round on the tins all over Brakpan by our very own Superhero, we managed to bank just on R6500.

As we said, EVERY CENT HELPS.

Thank you to every single person who put in their donations at our tins around Brakpan, as well as every store who has allowed our donation tins to be there.”

If you do have a jar of coins sitting at home, consider donating it to a local charity or take small portions of it with you and place them in tins as you see them. After all, every cent has the power to make a difference!
