South African celebrities have been sharing their breastfeeding images for years but this year, one stunning mom is standing up for all moms…
The 1st of August is the start of women’s month as well as breastfeeding week. For reasons beyond our understanding, breastfeeding is frowned upon in public. That is why breastfeeding week was launched, to help break the stigma and normalise the natural part of mothering a child.
South African celeb Jo-Anne Strauss has been outspoken about breastfeeding and is encouraging people to support women.
“Even if it offends you, I’m going to feed my baby whenever and wherever because it’s good for my child. If it offends you, look away. It offends me that it offends you, so there, we’re even. I always cover up when I breastfeed in public. I have no intention or desire to flash you my boob. I wish society would be less judgemental of women who are doing the most natural thing instead of making them feel unwelcome or awkward.”
Not only are celebs showing how normal it is to breastfeed, Spur has an open house policy that allows moms to breastfeed at their resturant. We shared the story last month about the posters being placed in all their restaurants to encourage mothers to feed their children. It stated,
“It is a lawful act in South Africa for women to breastfeed a child in public. Breastfeeding plays an important role in early childhood development due to its health and well-being benefits”
“Spur is a family-friendly restaurant, which places a great amount of emphasis on families, especially children; hence breastfeeding is welcomed at Spur”
“As a group with a large footprint across South Africa we’re taking a long-term view,” says Mark Farrelly Group Chief Operating Officer, Spur Corporation.
“South Africa can only grow if we are able to address the developmental challenges facing its citizens. By normalizing breastfeeding in our restaurants, we play our small part, contributing to the development of future leaders, the children.”
Over the last few months, a number of celebrities have been sharing their breastfeeding posts. They are empowering! Go get ’em mamma’s!
