The annual fund dog walk in aid of the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha is happening this March and this is how to get involved with your pups
Cape Town, South Africa – The Mdzananda Animal Clinic is a permanent, NPO, veterinary council registered animal clinic in the Khayelitsha township of Cape Town. The clinic helps serve a community of over 300,000 animals, ensuring they are well cared for, vaccinated and sterilised.
The clinic was founded in 1996 and sees around 700 animals a month. They also work to re-home strays and educate the community members on the importance of caring for the animals in the community.
“We believe that a community that loves animals is a healthy community. By looking after an animal people learn responsibility, respect for life, compassion and non-violence. These are valuable attributes which flow over into everyday life.”
To help raise funds to treat the animals that are brought in, they are hosting their annual fun dog walk. They are inviting everyone to join, even if you don’t have a pet. They will be bringing along some of their own which are also up for adoption. All the dogs have already been booked for walking but they are still in need of forever homes.
“The 5 km walk will be from the Mouille Point lighthouse to the Sea Point swimming pool and back. Various shorter turnaround points will be available for old or struggling pets (and humans).”
All funds raised go to Mdzananda based in Khayelitsha to run their NPO animal hospital that treats up to 700 pets per month. There will be stalls for ice-cream, coffee and they will also have a raffle.
All dogs must be on leashes. If you do join in the fun they are encouraging you to dress like your favourite animal. You can find out more about the event here.
