One SMALL Act of Kindness has a charity-funded preschool and aftercare, and sometimes they have to care for children after hours when the need arises.

Johannesburg, South Africa (23 May 2023) – One SMALL Act of Kindness (OSAOK) has a charity-funded preschool that helps struggling parents who need a safe space to send their children during the day. The team are dedicated to providing the best care for children in need.

Sometimes, the parents are not able to get back in time and the children stay at the house overnight. That is what happened this week. The OSAOK team had a child spend the night; they shared the story as well as ways that people can help them support the school. They do so much for the community and it really shows, especially now as winter creeps in.

“Tonight we have an extra little soul in our care as dad just never arrived to fetch him from school. An event that happens often with our charity school. Tonight is no different.

Look at this little 6 year old- can you imagine

Tonight being bathed in warm water enough to play in, being cleaned properly.

This is just one little life we change on a daily basis when he comes to school. He comes in shorts and short sleeve tops and at school he changes into something warm. Imagine being so used to the cold that you don’t feel it any more a little 6 year old.”

Little Bugs Day Care

“Our school is a home away from home. It is based on teaching our little ones manners and how to be caring and kind. We assist little ones who come from underprivileged backgrounds and parents who are struggling financially and are unable to pay school fees.”

“Our school currently has 74 attending children; 52 in the nursery school and 22 in aftercare as well as tutoring children. Our Aftercare children are personally fetched from their respective schools and given a warm cooked lunch and we assist them with homework and tutoring. Tutoring at our school has been so effective that our children achieve distinctions in their subjects, a very rewarding achievement to not only them but to us as well.

Our Nursery school children receive 2 cooked meals: Breakfast and lunch in the afternoon. We also treat the children to a snack such as fruit or peanut butter and jam sandwiches. This goes a long way for those parents who cannot afford to pack a snack for their children.”

Teachers at the school take time with each child to work on their basic needs. Many of the children come from homes that are filled with love, but poverty has meant they do not have much else. The school helps fill that gap so each child is cared for day and night.

“Doing what we do needs your help. Our teachers have incorporated before morning ring little morning moments with each child to make sure they fresh and ready to learn. From bathing, brushing hair, brushing teeth to washing faces or hands and feet – Our team is truly amazing and is called to be apart of what we do. Because it’s not easy!”

The team is hoping to collect much-needed donations to go to the children and the kitchen. Many times they will send a little food home with each child and some of the children ask for extra so they can share with their family. The need is great.

It costs a very small amount for each child to be at the school. You can sponsor a child for R250 a month or help them in other ways.

“We need warm clothing 3 months -7 years boys and girls ( new or old) shoes size kids size 6 till shoe size 2, cuppa soups, Vaseline, aqueous cream, Soap, wet wipes, Tissues, toothpaste and toothbrushes, Brushes, hair ties, kiddies socks, gloves or vitamin C.”

About One SMALL Act of Kindness

One SMALL Act of Kindness based in Johannesburg, works to support people most in need. They provide meals to the vulnerable people living on the streets each week from giant pots loaded into a trailer. People line up, and the team hopes and prays that they can feed each person.

One Small Act of Kindness was created and started from an idea on a Sunday night to help and assist communities and places that are missed or not assisted by other organisations. With more help and assistance from the communities, these places would be able to run a little more smoothly and assist or reach more than they are currently.

The aim is to assist old age homes, community foster homes, animal welfare, townships, locations, underprivileged nursery schools, and the homeless as well as shelters.
