Recognising the importance of inclusivity and support for children with cancer and people with hearing impairments, CHOC and the University of Free State collaborated to raise awareness and share their expertise.

Free State, South Africa (27 September 2024) – Two very worthy causes joined forces to raise awareness for the incredible work they do to promote inclusivity.

With September being International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month as well as International Deaf Awareness Month, CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation and the University of the Free State’s Sign Language Department joined forces for a meaningful collaboration.

The two organisations met earlier this month to share their expertise. This was a step towards expanding their reach and understanding their values, services, and challenges. They also discussed addressing the grey area of children who may suffer from both cancer and hearing impairments.

“As CHOC, we’re not only dedicated to supporting children, teenagers and families facing cancer, but we also believe in the importance of fostering inclusion in everything we do.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to creating a supportive environment for everyone, including children and teenagers with cancer who may face hearing challenges,” shares CHOC.

Both organisations look forward to growing their relationship and more opportunities where they can learn and grow together, always striving to serve those who need them for the better.
