The rescue collies from Border Collie Rescue South Africa have started getting their new winter jerseys thanks to committed sewing volunteers.
South Africa (20 June 2023) – Earlier this month we shared that Border Collie Rescue South Africa was in need of volunteers to help them sew 100 jerseys for their 50 resident rescue collies. Since then, they have managed to find a star volunteer who has helped them make many of the needed jerseys already.
13-year-old Paige heard about the need for jerseys and quickly volunteered to help. Since then, she has brought on her friend Kayla to help and together they have done a brilliant job. Other sewers have included Pam, Kay- Leigh, Audrey, Ethne and Nerene.
“I am so excited to start sewing doggie jackets for Border Collie Rescue SA.
I’d love to see more people and especially teenagers get involved.” – Paige
Gill, who helps out at the organisation is the go-to on this pawsome project. The pattern and fabric were made available too.
“Barks of thanks to all of you who have stepped forward to lend us their helpings hands to make dog jackets, to keep our collies warm, especially our oldies. The first jackets have arrived back just in time for the cold days ahead. Thank you for the fleece donation too. It really helps us. You are all pawsome! The collies’ paws salute you!”
PS: the team do also sell these warm jerseys so if you would like to place an order, be sure to reach out here.
