Dare2Dream is working on raising funds for its 2024 projects and needs a helping hand to help children in need experience their therapy options.

South Africa (20 May 2024) – In a world often marked by chaos and uncertainty, Dare2Dream shines as a beacon of hope and healing. Founded by Brenda De Klerk, Lynn Wheatly, and Jade Saunders in 2003, this remarkable charity harnesses the profound connection between humans and horses (through equine-assisted therapy) to empower children facing various challenges. These can include both physical, and emotional trauma, PTSD, ADHD, Autism, Substance Abuse, and more. As they navigate the ups and downs of their journey, they are guided by dedicated volunteers who generously donate their time and expertise to ensure every child receives the support they need.

What started as a passion for rescuing horses evolved into a transformative initiative when they envisioned a program that would not only benefit these majestic animals but also positively impact the lives of children in need. Thus, Dare2Dream was born, and since its inception, more than 500 children have come through the program. The premise is simple yet profound: The therapeutic approach is rooted in the innate sensitivity and intuition of horses, which enables them to respond to human emotions and body language with remarkable insight. There is no judgement from the horses which allows children the freedom to be themselves and be present in the moment.

“Horses provide fun, interest, physical stimulation, challenges, goals, and repetition (all factors which are conducive to learning). The success of equine therapy and riding is in the stimulation of the vestibular system. The inner ear has three semi-circular canals filled with fluid, which are sensitive to movement and are activated during riding. The spinal column, brain stem, cerebellum, and cerebral hemispheres are particularly responsible for sensory reception. This in turn influences perception, movement, posture, coordination, and academic learning. The vestibular core receives information from the muscles and skin, visual and auditory receptors, and many other sensory areas of the brain.”

Having emerged from the shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dare2Dream stands poised to continue its mission of healing and hope.

“Our mission is fuelled by compassion, resilience, and a shared commitment to transforming lives. Since 2003, we’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact that equine therapy can have on children facing challenges. But our work wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of individuals like you, and right now we are on the verge of having to close our doors.”

Equine therapy comes with unique funding challenges. Your donations, whether one-time or monthly, allow us to expand our program, reach more children in need, and provide a brighter future for all. Together, we can make a difference—one hoofbeat at a time. Join us in daring to dream of a world where every child could thrive, guided by the wisdom and grace of our extraordinary horses.
