Recognising the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, The Haven Night Shelter Welfare Organisation recently hosted a 10-day Dignity Project to provide essential care and support to the homeless community in Cape Town.

Cape Town, South Africa (07 January 2025) – Sure, life looks different for all of us but we all deserve a little love, dignity and a sense of belonging, regardless of the direction that our paths may have taken.

The Haven Night Shelter Welfare Organisation and its generous partners decided to spread a lot of this goodness to the destitute and homeless Cape Town community, who are so often looked down upon and unfairly judged by those fortunate enough to have better comforts or opportunities.

Choosing to see these individuals as more than just street beggars or an inconvenience to society, The Haven Night Shelter hosted a 10-day Dignity Project.

The event served as a wonderful opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the homeless community and, through dedicated social work interventions, helped reunite individuals with their families.

Those who attended also got to experience some much-needed grooming, refreshing showers and enjoy hearty cooked meals and fellowship – little things that we imagine brought them much comfort and hope.

The wholesome event culminated on Friday, 3 January with more treats and meals, dignity packs, clothes, and food packs to see them through the days ahead.

“Seeing the hope and transformation that come from the services offered is truly rewarding—a warm shower, a nourishing meal, a fresh shave, a haircut, and so much more. We are so grateful for the support and efforts over the past few days,” the shelter shared in a post.
