The Newton Park SuperSpar is being praised for its efforts in helping pet owners while shopping; the team launched the “Doggie Trolley” so pets can shop too.

Newton Park, South Africa (10 November 2022) – If you are the pet parent to a co-dependent (thanks lockdown) small breed dog that just about quivers itself to death if left alone for more than a second, you will want to read this! The Newton Park SuperSpar launched the Doggie Trolley, which allows you to take your littles with you when doing a quick shop.

Long gone are the days of seeing dogs left in cars or patiently waiting at the entrance of a shop while the owner dashes in for a loaf of bread. Today it would cause utter uproar and rightly so but it has also meant that many sad pups with separation anxiety, have to tough it out at home alone. The Newton Park SuperSpar has made it easier for everyone. Laura-Lynn Nel shared the photo of the trolley online, praising the SPAR for their efforts in helping pet owners.

Their newly launched Doggie Trolley allows a pet owner to take the small breed dog to the shop, placing it in the allocated trolley. The allocated trolley means those not wanting to use a trolley that has had a dog in it, can continue to shop as normal.

While most pets are perfectly happy to be left home for a short time, there are various cases where being able to take your pet with you is helpful. Say you have a puppy that needs 24 hour monitoring, or a small dog that has just had some form of medical care or has a condition that requires constant monitoring. Hands up if being home during the lockdown turned your pet into your constant shadow? Having to reassure them you are just popping out and will be back in less than 20 minutes is heartbreaking.

Naturally, there needs to be some common courtesy in place too. If your dog is aggressive, it wouldn’t be able to make use of this system without causing trouble. One also couldn’t expect to put a large dog in the trolley.

There has been some pushback and upset about this concept but overall, it is being embraced by the community. Are you yay for Doggie Trolley or nay?

We hope to see it popping up in more SPARs. Our little rescue is already getting his calculator paws warmed up to help with the budgeting! Chantel Cuthbert took her dog to the shop and made use of the Doggie Trolley. She even brought a nice comfy blanket for her pooch to lounge on while she did her shopping.
