Drive-throughs in the Mother City can now get you more than a burger, they can get you a fast licence too.
Brackenfell, Cape Town (10 September 2025) – The Mother City has just opened its first-ever licence renewal drive-through on the corner of Reservoir and Kruispad Roads in Brackenfell.
The good news is that it might just save motorists from one of the most dreaded admin chores around. Instead of standing in a queue at the licensing department for hours, you now get to stay in your car, tap your card, and drive off with your new disc.
The whole thing should take less than five minutes.
The service will be operational from Mondays to Fridays, 11:30–19:30 and on Saturdays from 11:00–14:30. It’s card-only (so no cash) and, at least for now, it’s just for licence renewals.
If you’ve got that renewal notice via SMS, just flash it and you’re sorted.
“We encourage motorists to make use of the Brackenfell drive-through and experience the convenience of renewing your disc from the comfort of your vehicle,” says the Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.
This is the City testing out smarter ways of doing things. They’re already talking about longer weekday hours and maybe even more drive-throughs down the line. It’s all part of making life a little more convenient.
No, there won’t be any burgers available but at least you won’t have the headache of paperwork and queuing. That’s a win.

Of course waste more more or it’s another money looting scheme why we still can’t renew online I don’t know
