A raw egg, a bit of sugar and a splash of brandy are making waves on social media, but one man is challenging everyone to donate money for hungry families.

Klapmuts, South Africa (14 April 2020) – The Egg Challenge has been doing the rounds on social media during the lockdown.

It entails that a person swallows a raw egg, followed by a mouthful of sugar and then ending it off with a shot of brandy or rum. The person then goes on to challenge a friend to do the same.

The challenge is very similar to the Nek-Nominations that were all the rage 6 years ago. The Nek-Nominations back then, also had people drinking alcohol in crazy ways and nominating friends to do the same. It all changed when Brent Lindeque, the founder of Good Things Guy, gave a homeless man a meal instead and nominated friends to do the same.

Brent inspired a global movement, and it was that movement that inspired him to start sharing more good news every day.

That is how Good Things Guy was born.

When we heard about Guillaume Du Toit’s egg challenge, we were reminded of how good things start with simple acts.

Guillaume has challenged people to rather donate to a cause close to his heart during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He starts his Egg Challenge by explaining how an egg and some sugar provide much-needed energy during emergencies. He then changes the egg challenge and challenges anyone who has been nominated, to rather donate to a food cause. His reasoning is that the pandemic and lockdown have left thousands of families without food security. This is the kind of challenge we can get behind!

Guillaume’s cause is the Klapmuts Lockdown Food Project. The project is helping to feed 1500 families in need. They deliver food parcels every two weeks and the cost is a simple R200.00. Guillaume hopes that people will do more with their challenge nominations as this happens to be a very challenging time for people.

So, if you find yourself being nominated for the challenge, you can use it to do some good while you are at it!
