The 29th of May 2024 is election day which means it’s a bonus public holiday – before running off to make plans, be sure to make your mark.
South Africa (21 February 2024) – Whether you are waking up at the crack of dawn to line up and vote, or waiting until the last moment to get your thumb marked, the 29th of May 2024 (a Wednesday) is officially election day. That means all non-essential workers, are able to take a fully-fledged public holiday.
We shared earlier this year, when prepping our leave calendar for 2024, that we would update you when the “bonus” public holiday would take place, and now we know.
As South Africans, we all have a civic duty to vote. This public holiday is an important one as it gives every South African over the age of 18 the chance to have their say in how the country is run.
And while we are all for meeting up with friends and having a good ol’ braai, be sure to do so while showing off that impressive thumb mark. Rally your neighbours and rejoice over what change could be coming for your community.
It is essential that this public holiday is used for what it is intended. To make a change. You will be joining 27.6 million voters on the day.
So, to be sure you are ready to vote, check that you are still registered at the correct voting station, and when the day comes, show up.
