The Banks family is back for a very special event, and this time the Father of the Bride… is the Father of the Groom!
Global (26 September 2020) – The original cast of the beloved “Father of the Bride” movies reunited for a special event on Netflix on Friday, almost 30 years after its 1991 premiere. The movie’s sequel “Father of the Bride: Part II” premiered in 1995.
Pandemic Zooms have given us reunions of many casts and films, and now they are giving us entire sequels too.
Nancy Meyers – the writer, producer and director of the original two movies, also wrote and directed the special titles Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish) – a 20 minute special to raise money for World Central Kitchen via Netflix.
Introduced by Reese Witherspoon, the “special sequel” sees the Banks Family gathered together for a Zoom call and a wedding-related announcement. Original cast members Steve Martin, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Diane Keaton, Kieran Culkin, Martin Short and George Newbern were all a part of the 25-minute performance. Newcomers to the ensemble included Alexandra Shipp, Ben Platt (who sings an amazing first-dance song), Florence Pugh and Robert DeNiro.
And just like the other two movies, Steve Martin delivers a beautiful first speech which really brings a message of hope in these trying times.
“We’re living in a tough time, and we don’t know exactly how to do this or how it’s going to turn out, but we’ve managed to stay okay all these months because we have each other.”
The performance was available on Netflix’s Facebook and YouTube pages, but you can watch it here:
