Fokofpolisiekar have launched their first album in 11 years by setting up a crowdfunding page to help them independently pay for it and reached their goal in 9 days.

Fokofpolisiekar has been around for nearly 14 years, they first came together in Cape Town in 2003. They were inspired by the idea of liberation, determined to carve a path that was different from the boxed-in stereotypical Afrikaans future that faced them.

They jumped in a van and toured the country, they followed no rules and discussed things that were considered taboo.

They never limited the conversation, these things are what created their loyal following. Over the years the band discussed breaking up but never could, they stood for too much.

This Fokof thing just won’t die. We’ve tried to break up, but we couldn’t. It’s bigger than we ever could’ve dreamed; and that’s because of one thing…YOU.

For the first time in 11 years the band plans to release an album. However they don’t want to be exploited by record labels so they have made to move to become independent.

To do so they needed funding so they set up a Thundafund profile to ask their fans to help them fund their new album.

The band set a goal for 500K which would have covered all the costs of the album. In a matter of 9 days, the band had received over the 500K in pledges. They have 45 days left of the funding campaign so they have now made 2 new pledges for their fans.

If we reach R700 000, we will play a free show in Cape Town (on a first come first serve basis) and if we reach R800 000 we will play a free show in Gauteng (also on a first come first serve basis).

The new album is set to be released in October 2017, pre-orders of digital, cd’s and vinyl are available on the Thundafund website.
