SA’s Freshlyground has returned with a new single and songstress. Plus, a new album is on the way!
South Africa (28 November 2025) – One of South Africa’s most beloved bands has made a comeback, with all the best afro-pop vibes we know and love.
Freshlyground released their new single this month. It’s called Jabula.
It’s been seven years since their last release. While the band is still making music that honours the spirit that has defined them for so many years, the six-piece ensemble is sporting a new lead songstress, Mbali Makhoba.
Makhoba grew up in Cape Town’s Imizamo Yethu township, and has overcome significant challenges to pursue her passion for music, the band shares.
Recently, she became the first person in her extended family to travel internationally, performing at the prestigious Lalela Foundation gala fundraiser in New York City.

”Mbali’s deep connection to South African musical traditions and contemporary artistry perfectly aligns with Freshlyground’s vision. Her addition not only represents a musical evolution but also continues our commitment to sharing South Africa’s vibrant culture with audiences worldwide.” shares the band.
The new single marks the first song from Freshlyground’s upcoming album, Take Me Home.
It was recorded live at Bridgenorth Studios in Harare, Zimbabwe. Produced by the Grammy Award-winning JB Arthur, the single is packed with the energy and creative direction that defines the local band’s reimagined sound.
