A little corner of the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home has been transformed into a magical place for little bookworms, all thanks to the kindness of generous donors.
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (02 March 2025) – Imaginations are about to run wild, and curiosity sparked at the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home thanks to a revamp and generous contribution of a wonderful reading corner.
Remember the excitement of story time when a teacher or your mum and dad would take the time to open a book and read it to you with the greatest expression, painting a visual picture of a character doing the coolest or silliest things?
Well, many children at this home for safety and care will get to experience this incredible feeling in a bright and welcoming reading nook – for some, for the very first time, having known only hardship.
Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home provides a home for children who are orphaned and vulnerable as well as children who are infected and affected by HIV & AIDS. Seeing these children for the special little people that they are, staff and caregivers dedicated their time, day after day, to ensuring all their needs are met and get to be the carefree kids they deserve to be.
And thanks to the kindness of donors, Shireen and friends, the gift of a new colourful and cosy reading corner filled with amazing books, these kids will get to enjoy books to their heart’s content.
Touched by the thoughtful gesture, members of the home expressed their deepest thanks for the reading corner which will bring more smiles and mould young minds.
