Step aside cliques… Now SA women can find friends easily through an app that compares interests and hobbies, just in time for Women’s Month.

The GirlCrew app was born in Dublin after co-founder Elva Carri had a rough time getting her actual friends to go out with her. She wanted to go dancing but her friends were either busy or not up for a night out. Refusing to give in, she adjusted her Tinder profile and asked for platonic dancing buddies.

Quickly she received over 100 matches. She added all the people to a secret Facebook Group and so the idea of GirlCrew was born. She teamed up with Aine Mulloy and Pamela Newenham, and the three co-founders began growing GirlCrew groups in cities all over the world.

Now the app is practically global! It was developed to allow women to find friends with similar interests and hobbies. It can also be used as a community forum for women. Women who sign up can even use it as a way to network for work and industry events.

“Once you finish college, it gets harder to make friends. This is more of a support network, too. You can raise anything, ranging from concerns about finding plumbers, to needing information about parking in town.”

“We’ve got a real all for one, and one for all type of vibe. Women are great for backing each other, and when we come together we all grow as a team. We’re seeing this every day on the app and it is fantastic. Girl Crew allows for more connectivity and links you with your community.” – Aine Mulloy

Need a running partner, someone to watch that cringy chick-flick with or just a friend to teach you how to sow? The app will be able to connect you to your future bestie!

You can find out more and download the app here.
