Johannesburg, South Africa – South African brands Goodbye Malaria and Nova Chocolate have teamed up to launch a feel-good, taste-good, does-good, artisanal chocolate that uses ethically sourced ingredients. Does it get any better than that? Well, actually it does.

“Every Bite Counts” is also sugar-and-gluten-free, and 100% vegan-friendly, removing all the guilt without compromising on the taste.

A percentage of proceeds from each new chocolate sold will raise funds and awareness for the fight against malaria in Southern Africa.

Every Bite Counts chocolate bars are made locally in South Africa using the finest ingredients. Available in two delicious flavours: Dark Chilli Chocolate and Dark Chocolate with salted caramelised cashew nuts and chilli. The chocolate will also give consumers a taste of the African Bird’s Eye Chilli that is specially grown in Mozambique, with the added benefit of the eye-catching graphics that subtly incorporates the Malaria pathogen.

“When thinking about how to bridge the gap between those who need protection and consumers who want to make a difference but don’t know how food seemed the ideal solution. What we eat says a lot about who we are, and reflects our values and beliefs. It can also serve as a representation of our own personal ethics and defines how we see our environment and care about the world. Eradicating malaria is everyone’s fight, and our Every Bite Counts chocolate is a relationship between two entities who are passionate about changing and protecting lives.” said Kim Lazarus, Co-Founder of Goodbye Malaria

Malaria is completely preventable and treatable, but a child dies from malaria every two minutes. The disease remains an issue that is firmly on the global agenda, and Goodbye Malaria’s on-the-ground eliminations programmes operating in Southern Africa have helped create an impact in the eradication of the disease. The programme is implemented by LSDI2, in collaboration with the Governments of Eswatini, Mozambique, South Africa and The Global Fund.

So, why chocolate?

“Nova provides an experience that is delicious, guilt-free and diet-friendly. Our chocolate is wrapped in fun and quirky packaging, but the one thing we do take seriously is how our products make a difference. Teaming up with Goodbye Malaria was such a natural fit. We’re enormously proud of this collaboration, and the resulting product is a such a labour of love – chocolate that tells a beautiful visual and sensory story, with the bonus of saving lives… and all in one bite!” says Heidi Kerwan at Nova Chocolate.
