Johannesburg is set to experience the heaviest rainfall for the season tomorrow, the 5th of December 2017. SA weather services urge residents to be vigilant.
The rains are coming and they are going to be coming in hard. The South African weather service has issued a warning stating that people should be prepared for heavy rains and possible localised flooding.
Over the last week, Johannesburg has experienced heavy thundershowers and lightning storms. This will all be even stronger tomorrow, the 5th of December.
“We are expecting on-and-off thundershowers throughout the day on Tuesday. It is an 80% chance of rain we are expecting. With that, we can expect heavy rain over Gauteng‚ which could lead to localised flooding‚” – Forecaster Kgolofelo Mahlangu
“Our indicators show that Gauteng will get above normal rain for this season… It does not look like it will clear up for the next seven days. The bulk of the rain will be on Tuesday. From Wednesday onwards‚ it will rain mostly in the afternoon‚”
So pack an umbrella and a waterproof jacket in your bag tonight and let your friends and colleagues know too. Not everyone will be prepared so be sure to think of others on your route to and from work tomorrow.
While the rains are replenishing water levels, it is important to stick to the current standing water restrictions. You can read more about Johannesburg water restrictions here.
