A group of university students work to tutor and uplift students in poorer communities but need one simple tool to make the process a huge success!

Today 4 Tomorrow (T4T) is a non-profit organisation set up by UCT students to help give back to high school learners in poorer communities. T4T offers tutoring, mentorships and career guidance to learners in need.

They have an annual calculator campaign to collect scientific calculators, a vital tool needed for Grade 10 and onwards. To some, a calculator may not seem like a big deal but to others, they can be too expensive to buy and can hold a learner back from their full potential.

This year the group of university students are hoping to collect enough for 50 calculators. Lonwabo Damane, the founder of the non-profit, said that each week they drive to one of their schools and work to show they teens that hard work pays off. The group tutor those who join in and that is when he noticed that they were having to share calculators.

He started campaigning for calculators last year and managed to raise enough for double what they needed, meaning they could help out even more students than they had hoped to. That is why Londwabo and T4T are planning to raised funds for 50 new calculators this year.

It is amazing how one simple tool can open up a brighter future for learners in need. Every calculator gives a learner the chance to better their marks and gain access to a university education.
