South African filmmaker Jenna Bass has created a hit movie using an iPhone 7. The movie was recently featured at the Toronto International Film Festival.
High Fantasy is a local drama/comedy with a “Freaky Friday” twist. The film is about a group of four friends that head off to go camping somewhere in the Northern Cape. The trip consists of three friends and their tag along male friend who is only there to ease the minds of the mothers.
The diverse group struggle with issues almost as once! The ladies cannot handle their male friends chauvinistic attitude. Politics become a heavy topic when the friends discuss white privilege and land reform. The man of the movie briefly touches on the ‘Men are Trash’ idea that trended earlier this year.
Everything changes when the group wake up after their first night on the farm. They are no longer in their own bodies.
During the night, without any reason, all four of them have swapped bodies. Their reactions vary from horror to disgust to glee, but one thing is agreed; they can’t go home like this.
The stage is set for comedy to turn to tragedy, for the fantasy of the Rainbow Nation to become a painful awakening.
Jenna Bass filmed the movie using an iPhone 7. The concept was the group of friends where capturing their experience ‘selfie-style’, which is also known as “Vlogging”. The film includes a reality TV setting of post-experience interviews.
The Toronto International Film Festival is running until the 17th of September. High Fantasy featured over the weekend. This isn’t Jenna’s first work to appear at a film festival. Her short ‘The Tunnel’ was featured at Sundance. Watch the trailer for the movie below.
