Dr Dean Allen is a best-selling author, lecturer and historian. He has been published widely on the history and politics of sport and society throughout the British Empire, most notably in South Africa. Having taught at universities in South Africa, the UK, Ireland and Australia, he is currently a Senior Academic at Bournemouth University in the UK and a Research Associate of Stellenbosch University in South Africa.

Dean is a popular guest lecturer and speaker and has presented motivational talks and keynote papers around the world, with his most recent being in the middle of the Kruger National Park.

The Johannesburg Orchestra were invited to play in the middle of the Kruger National Park as part of the talks, and Dean posted the video of the beautiful performance.

“One of the joys of being invited to speak at #Baroque in the #Bush is that we get to listen to some wonderful music here in the middle of the Kruger National Park. Under the direction of Richard Cock, the musicians, many of them members of the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra, appear in this clip alongside the Charl du Plessis Trio.”
