A filling station in Hyde Park that has become well-known for its inspirational messages, is now giving the same hope to everyone online!

Johannesburg, South Africa (19 November) – The BP petrol station on Jan Smuts Avenue has become a landmark in Johannesburg, and whether locals are stopping by for fuel, a bite to eat or a quick coffee… everyone passing by gets a daily dose of inspiration from the petrol pump message board!

And through social media… the message board is bringing that joy to the whole world!

A friend of Good Things Guy made us aware of the board, and how it has evolved to be on social media too!

But the message board has actually been around for almost 50 years, and Alison Purchase – co-owner of the filing station has simply just followed tradition!

“My husband bought the petrol station 25 years ago, and I joined him a few years later. I have since been writing the quotes for the past 19 years,” she explained to the Rosebank Killarney Gazette.

“Inspiration for my quotes comes from anywhere really – for instance, I got this morning’s quote from one of my daughter’s teachers; it was written on her door. I also walk around with my little black book, and I write down any message that I come across, be it at a restaurant or on a Starbucks cup.”

But the passionate South African has taken it one step further, and the inspirational messages are now also all over Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for all to see.
