The Jozi Cats Rugby teams have taken a huge step forward in creating an inclusive and accepting environment for their players. Even making rugby history!
The Jozi Cats rugby club launched a massive campaign a year ago as a way to create inclusivity within the sporting world for gay men. The team made history as the first gay and inclusive rugby club from Africa to be invited to play in the Union Cup in Madrid.
They also saw the club grow to over 60 members and set out to blow the whistle on homophobia in sport. The campaign was designed to break the stereotypes of gay sportsmen, this lead to global recognition and the start of another 3 clubs across South Africa.
“To everyone that has supported us and continues to do so, a very big thank you. To Exclusive Books who support our values of inclusivity, diversity and equality for all, to all our friends and those in the media a massive thank you for understanding the the importance of what we are doing and want to do to make rugby in South Africa and around the world more inclusive.”
“And finally to all the Jozi Cats both here and abroad – thank you – without your dedication, love and support we would have no club!”
The clubs PR team recently won two PRISM awards for the campaign. Winning Silver in “PR on a Shoestring” and “Campaign of the Year”. Huge congrats to the club and all they are doing for South African rugby!
