Kids Haven in Benoni is challenging South Africa to build tin food pyramids for Mandela Day and then to donate the food to the charity; there is even a title up for grabs!
Benoni, South Africa (20 June 2023) – Kids Haven is hosting a fun Mandela Day challenge that will enable them to feed hundreds of people in need this year. They are challenging people to build tinned food pyramids and then to donate the collected food items to the organisation.
Kids Haven works to protect children in crisis. Founded in 1992 by Moira Simpson, a social worker who could see the need for a safe haven, Kids Haven takes in boys and girls in need. Initially, the focus was on helping street children but today, they help any children that find themselves in need or are without parental support.
The team has launched its Mandela Day project for 2023, challenging people to collect tinned foods and other non-perishable items, to build a pyramid, share it online and then to donate the food items to Kids Haven.
Kids Haven is focusing on its food needs in 2023 – a quick and impactful way to get involved. Kids Haven assists hundreds of children, youth, adults and the elderly with food each year.
Help Kids Haven collect as many food cans to feed as many people as possible.
“Build your very own food can pyramid from any of the most-needed tins we use every day. Your pyramid can be filled with cans of tomatoes, baked beans, lentils, pilchards, fruit, and jam. You may even be able to build your pyramid using plastic pots of peanut butter, jam, and hot chocolate for a winter treat. We will use it all to supplement the meals at Kids Haven,” says Susan Daly, fundraising coordinator Kids Haven.
So, get your company, school, friends and family involved. Take a picture of your pyramid by 18 July, post it on the Kids Haven’s Facebook page and stand the chance of being crowned the Mandela Pyramid Champs for 2023. You can drop off your cans at the Kids Haven donation centre in Bryanston or at the children’s home in Benoni. Get collecting!
