Families were encouraged to dress up in their spookiest costumes as the KwaZulu-Natal Museum hosted a “Night at the Museum” event with a Halloween twist, providing engaging and educational experiences for both young and old!

Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (30 October 2024) — Inspired by the beloved comedy movie Night at the Museum, the KwaZulu-Natal Museum came alive on Saturday night, 26 October, when it opened its doors to a Halloween-themed wonderland.

Designed as a family-friendly outing, the Night at the Museum event invited visitors of all ages to dress up and explore the museum in a festive Halloween atmosphere, offering visitors a unique opportunity to learn about history, nature and culture while enjoying spooky fun.

The event’s highlights included an educational snake talk by snake rescuer Nick Evans who brought the museum’s natural history exhibits to life as he shared his expertise and passion for these often misunderstood creatures.

Also captivating the audience was Dr Fish from the University of Zululand Science Centre, who presented an engaging and hands-on demonstration exploring the Science of Music.

The KZN Museum, a part of the Pietermaritzburg community for the past 120 years, is dedicated to being a safe, welcoming space where fun and interactive learning come together.

“By opening our doors at night, we aimed to welcome families who might be too busy during the day. This gave them a unique chance to discover the museum and learn something new. It was a wonderful opportunity to create lasting memories together,” shares the KwaZulu-Natal Museum’s head of Public Relations and Marketing, Viranna Frank.

“The public’s response was incredible, as this interactive session opened a window into the fascinating ways science and sound intersect. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and made it a truly special night!”
