34 people are taking part in the 10th run across South Africa, known as the MAD2Run; the eight day relay challenge raises funds for scholarships.

South Africa (08 October 2023) – For the tenth year, a group of MAD South Africans will be running a 1500km 24-hour relay from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Over eight gruelling days, 34 runners supported by a small support crew will take on this epic cross-country event designed to raise funds for disadvantaged scholars.

This adventure-for-a-cause is founded on the belief that each person has a calling to be an active citizen and “make a difference” wherever they can. The only requirement? A big heart and a willingness to be a little MAD! MAD2Adventures for a Cause is a registered NPO, hosting its 10th  MAD2Run event.  All proceeds from the event go to the Make A Difference (MAD) Leadership Foundation, which is a comprehensive education and leadership-focused NPO.

The MAD Leadership Foundation offers a full-investment scholarship that provides holistic educational support to academically talented scholars who show promise but lack the necessary financial resources to effectively develop their potential. There are currently 345 South African scholars enrolled in the programme and the Foundation’s aim is to raise enough funds to uplift hundreds more.

Commenting on the 10th MAD2RUN event, Dayle Raaff, Managing Director of MAD2Run said “For a decade South Africans from all walks of life have come together for this event, combining their love for running and South Africa. Over the past 9 years, we have raised over R7,5 million for the MAD Leadership Foundation which has funded high school and tertiary education for over 500 underprivileged scholars changing not only these scholars’ lives, but those of their families and broader communities.”

She also indicated that due to the high level of commitment required from each MAD2Run participant, applicants need to motivate as to why they would be suitable for this event.

“After submitting applications in the first couple of months of 2023 this year’s group of successful applicants have been training and raising funds for the past 7 months. The actual run to Cape Town is the culmination of months of planning, training and fundraising by the team.”

Starting on 6 October, the MAD2Run athletes will set off from The Mall at Newmarket in Alberton, Johannesburg, and run through Kroonstad, Bloemfontein, Colesberg, Victoria West, Sutherland and Ceres, before reaching Harbour Bridge Hotel in Cape Town on 13 October. Then, to further prove just how truly MAD they are, some of the MAD2Runners will run the Cape Town Marathon on Sunday 15 October.

Step by step, stride for stride, MAD2Adventures is paving a path and making a difference for SA’s future leaders. To join these MAD athletes on their incredible journey across the country, follow them on Instagram (@mad2adventures) and Facebook (MAD2Run) and visit the website at www.mad2run.com.

“This event changes lives each year for scholars and runners alike. We are grateful for all the support we have received in the build-up to this year’s event and we’d like to appeal to all South Africans who are able to, to consider supporting our 10th journey of Making A Difference by Running Across SA, For SA,” Raaff concluded.
