Everyone loves a good takeaway but we often feel guilty for over-indulging – now your takeaways can be the perfect way to find a beloved pet for your family.

Hout Bay, South Africa (08 November 2021) – Massimo’s – a pizzeria in the Western Cape – have launched a new campaign with DARG to help get their pups adopted. They are using their takeaways to help make a difference.

Massimo’s has the “best pizza in Africa” and even better hearts! Whenever there is a need, Massimo and his team come up with a way to give back.

Massimo and Tracy opened Massimo’s in 2009, in Hout Bay, Western Cape. They are incredibly passionate about food, their clients and bettering South Africa!

They started a “pay-it-forward” campaign at the beginning of 2015 to make it easier for the Hout Bay community to give back. While they were open, Massimo’s clients could buy one or more R10 ‘virtual’ slices of pizza, and for every six slices sold, Massimo’s would deliver an entire pizza to a local charity or institution.

Like every business, they were forced to close their doors during the first lockdown. That wouldn’t stop Massimo from paying it forward though and he went on to donate 100 pizzas to fire victims in July 2020 as well as raising over R200,000 to go towards community support in 2020.

The team have continued their charitable efforts and the latest project is to help get animals from DARG adopted. The first animal to be featured on their takeaway boxes is Brando.

Massimo’s has worked to raise funds for DARG in many different ways over the years.

“We give them R1 for every frozen pizza sold, R5 for every Luna (bacon, feta & avo) and R5 for every pack of boozy Christmas Crackers. During the first lockdown for 4 months, we gave daily meals to the 15 staff that were living there to look after animals”

Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG) is an animal rescue group based in Hout Bay. The organisation is a pro-life organisation that rescues, cares for, sterilises and re-homes abused, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs.

Take a look at the takeaway bow below. They will be adding more animals to the boxes soonest.
