Miss South Africa 2023 has cleared the red tape on outdated restrictions in a move toward inclusivity! Here’s all you need to know:

South Africa (03 May, 2023)—The rumour mill started turning last year when the word on the street shared that Miss SA might finally allow mothers and wives to participate; a former entry obstacle that’s been around for as long as the pageant.

The long-standing rule seemed to object to the very thing equality stands for—choice! And, after a Miss Universe memo revealed plans to allow the same inclusivity for parents and married individuals, Miss SA got to thinking.

We’re happy to report that Miss SA is officially more inclusive—wives and mothers can take their chance at wearing the national crown for the first time ever, but that’s not all.

“This year we have pushed more boundaries than ever before and we are delighted to welcome all women who are ready to step onto our leadership platform and be the next ambassador for South Africa.

“We, as women, are so many things; we can be business owners, leaders, innovators, influencers, mothers, daughters, philanthropists, role models, ambassadors and queens all at the same time.

“Showcasing the multi-diverse nature of all of this will be at the core of the competition. Miss South Africa is no longer just a one-night pageant – viewers are really going to get to know the finalists during the television show.”— Stephanie Weil, CEO of the Miss South Africa Organisation.

Miss SA has also changed the age range of applications. Now applicants must be 20 years old or under 30 years old as of 13 August this year.

“This means that an applicant can turn 30 within their year of reign (starting August 2023). There are also no height or weight specifications or requirements.”— Miss SA new regulations.

And, if you didn’t know, tattoos and piercings are no entry barrier. Transgender women are also more than welcome to participate thanks to the 2021 regulation change.

Why Do The Changes Matter?

The more women who get a chance to be themselves on such a big platform, the more opinions and true reflections of South Africa we get to see and learn from!

Are more women getting a chance at their dreams? We’re here for it!

Entries for Miss South Africa 2023 are open and will close at 11:30 on 5 May, 2023.
