Young Lwandle Zuma was gifted a brightly painted kennel for his new dog named Puppy so he can have a safe sport to sit during the day.
Mpophomeni, South Africa (11 October 2022) – Funda Nenja is a dog training initiative run in the township of Mpophomeni, near Howick, in the KZN Midlands of South Africa. They focus on animal welfare in the area by providing dog training lessons to the children and much-needed vaccinations for their beloved dogs.
These lessons teach the dogs some obedience skills but also help the children bond with their pets to form a deeper connection. The classes help educate children about animal welfare and encourage them to show their families how to treat animals too.
The classes are hosted each week, and as part of the programme, the dogs involved get checked up by the primary veterinary clinic. For any animals not inoculated yet, they get it done right there.
When school holidays take place, everyone gets a nice break. Before Lwandle and his dog Puppy set off home, they were surprised with a newly painted kennel. Sadly Lwandle’s previous dog had been stolen from his yard so when he got puppy, his parents made space for the dog to share their couch at night. That way he would be safe indoors. During the day, he can now rest in his new kennel.
“Another beautifully painted kennel awarded to 7-year-old Lwandle Zuma and his dog Puppy. Lwandle’s previous dog was stolen from their property, so when his parents got him another dog, the family decided that this new dog would have to sleep inside the house at night. So Puppy has his own spot on the couch inside the house. When Puppy is outside, he has a makeshift shelter so he can get out of the sun and rain. So we decided this duo should be awarded with a new, stunning kennel, blanket and bowl.”
