Businesswomen, social workers, community leaders, teachers, entrepreneurs, nurses, volunteers, administrators and creatives; if you know a woman making a difference in her community, this is the award for her!

Cape Winelands (14 June 2021) – We all know of a woman in our community that is helping others in some way. Valcare’s women empowerment initiative, now in its ninth year, aims to empower, honour and celebrate these remarkable women who make a difference in the Cape Winelands.

With National Women’s Month taking place in August, the organisation has opened nominations for the Proteas of the Valley for 2021.

The use of the protea is a symbolic one: the Protea flower thrives in dry and mountainous terrain, much-like Proteas of the Valley women flourish amidst difficult conditions.

The nominations for this year’s Proteas of the Valley campaign will be opened last week, Monday, 7 June 2021 and will close on Friday, 2 July 2021. Nominations are open to the public and available online.

You are encouraged to nominate inspirational ladies who stay or work in the Cape Winelands region (Paarl to Franschhoek, Wellington to Stellenbosch), making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Once nominations have closed, an independent selection committee will choose 15 women that will be announced in July 2021 and celebrated publicly throughout women’s month in August 2021. The work they do within their communities will be highlighted too.

Depending on Covid-19 restrictions at the time, the ladies will also be invited to attend a High Tea celebration ceremony at the luxurious Kronenburg Estate, where they will each receive a hamper filled with special gifts.

Any woman can be a Proteas of the Valley winner. Valcare is looking for everyday ladies who are flowering beautifully where they have been planted.

These women are grandmothers, mothers, wives, foster parents, aunts and daughters. They are the businesswomen, social workers, community leaders, teachers, entrepreneurs, nurses, volunteers, administrators and creatives. They are the impact champions and change agents – anyone that is making a difference in other people’s lives.

If you have someone worthy of a nomination, click here to complete the online nomination form.
