The Solo Studios art weekend is on next month with a special silent art auction on the cards that’ll go to supporting community creatives and animals!

Riebeek Valley (10 July 2024) — Every year, the Solo Studios art weekend in Riebeek-Kasteel unites a community through the enjoyment of emerging artists’ perspectives. It’s a time where wine and drink flow, where the curtain rises on performing artists and when positive change becomes possible by supporting something as simple and complex as a portrait at a silent art auction.

Part of the many things to look forward to come 9-11 August is the “One Shot” Silent Art Auction hosted by Gallery 7.

Gallery 7 provides a safe space and platform for emerging artists to exhibit their work, often for the first time. This year, they’ll also play host to an exhibit of small portraits contributed by participating Solo Studios artists which will be up for auction as a way to get tails wagging and young creatives beaming as part of an Art for Good initiative.

The proceeds are set to head back into the community with funds going to art materials used in local youth after school art programmes including Andries Dirks’ Klipkind workshops. The For Life Centre (who run Youth on the Move dance groups, Ribbed West and Ribbed Kasteel knitting groups) will also be supported as well as Riebeek Animal Welfare (RAW)!

Other events to look forward to include ‘Studio Strolls’ which will provide intimate encounters with local artists in their studios, ‘Collaborative Canvases’ where studios will be opened to artists outside of the community, ‘Fruits of the (Riebeek) Valley—an adventure through one of the country’s most picturesque valleys, and ‘Gallery-studded streets’ for a walk-about experience that’ll feed one’s belly and senses.
