Meal prepping on a massive scale is on the menu in Kenilworth, with 48,000 meals set to feed hundreds of hungry children for a full year! But, this packathon needs a few helping hands to pack the treats:

Kenilworth, South Africa (10 November 2023)—Rise Against Hunger is rallying the troops to help them pack 48000 meals next week as part of an ambitious packathon and a massive meal prep session that’ll leave your Sunday prep looking slim.

With 440 kilograms of ingredients already prepared, the meals aim to feed over 208 children at Early Childhood Development Centres for a full year. This is part of the Global NPO’s mission to ensure young children have access to nutritious meals. For many children, these meals are a lifeline.

“It is estimated that up to 3.1 million children suffer from hunger daily. We help to ensure that children are fed in their places of education which is often their only meal of the day, says Dayne Myles, Rise Against Hunger spokesperson.

But, with initiatives like the packathon, hope is on the menu.

The teams behind the big pack are now looking for members of the community to help them pack the treats. If you didn’t get your Mandela hours in this year, this is your sign to lend an hour.

“We encourage the community to sign-up for a 60 minute shift on the 18th of November. You will be an important part of our production line and your time will make a big difference in the lives of the Western Cape children we will be delivering the food parcels to,” adds Dayne.

In addition, Rise Against Hunger is also receiving a big donation of R80 000 to keep their mission cooking.

It’s all going down at the Kenilworth Centre, and you can book your slot for 18 November, here.
