The Reddam House Umhlanga choir has been representing South Africa in New York on their tour and even got to watch the Proteas playing.

New York, United States (11 June 2024) – The Reddam House Choir from Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, is currently in New York, sharing their talents with various schools and the public as well as visiting some of the most iconic music venues in the world!

The school has been planning this trip for a long, long time and the anticipation was huge! Now that they are there, they have been soaking up every opportunity. A total of 49 students from grades 9 to 12, made the trip along with parents and teachers as chaperons.

Sharon Rogers, the mom of one of the choirs, shared that the school has been flying the flag high in the city that never sleeps.

“They are performing at Carnegie Hall and at Patrick’s Cathedral, have visited Juilliard

They are flying the South African flag high with a repertoire of songs in a multitude of our official languages, including a brilliant African Set with drums and gumboot dancing!” – Sharon Rogers

The choir has a vibrant Instagram profile, and all the adventures are shared there. They shared that the tour was a long time coming and has been filled with opportunities.

“This tour might have been just over a year in the planning but, in truth, our College Choir has been preparing to embark on this journey of musical discovery and inspiration for many years under the guidance of maestro Mr Russell Scott. They have also forged bonds that transcend mere friendship. Through shared experiences and shared passions, they have become a tight-knit community bound together by their love for music and the excitement of this shared journey.

In the bustling heart of New York City, where dreams soar as high as skyscrapers and melodies reverberate through the streets, we look forward to our College Choir uniting in harmony and we hope that each member of the choir will embrace the opportunity to share their passion for music with the world’s most iconic city. From Carnegie Hall to St Patrick’s Cathedral, this College Choir Tour promises not only unforgettable performances but also moments of profound connection, personal growth, and collective empowerment.”

The school choir even got the chance to watch the Proteas at the T20 World Cup in New York, giving our guys in Green and Gold South African-worthy cheers and support.

They are having the best time and showing the US just how amazing South African musical talent is!
