Improving the economy of the locals with coffee production in the African continent, with the ‘Reviving Origins’ programme.

Africa (02 August 2021) – Coffee lovers rejoice! African countries like Uganda, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are once again accelerating in the export of coffee.

The growth of coffee exports started declining rapidly from the early 2000s due to economic instability and lack of support for the farmers.

With the decreasing economic range of these countries, many lost hope of making a living and even migrated to other countries searching for a job.

The ‘Reviving Origins’ programme was started in 2019 by Nespresso to revive countries like DRC, Uganda and Zimbabwe that had once been flourishing in coffee production and export.

By forming a partnership with the farmers, they produce organic coffee beans rich in taste and quality. It helps the farmers gain exposure globally, thereby increasing the individual economies for the local farmers.

Nespresso is also helping to improve the healthcare facilities of these countries. They intend to provide a stable economic and health situation for the farmers, enabling these countries to thrive in the field of coffee production again. In a way, we can say that they are indeed ‘reviving origins’.

By providing continuous support to the farmers at times of environmental or economic issues with the production, Nespresso has won the trust of the locals.

This programme has launched three types of coffees from three countries which are named, Kahawa ya Congo (Hope of Congo), Amaha awe Uganda (Hope of Uganda) and Tamuka mu Zimbabwe (Awakening of Zimbabwe).

The names of the countries have been integrated with the product name to emphasise the distinctive qualities of the coffee.

These products are derived from organic farming methods and are infused with the specific items available in the particular country, assisted by Nespresso.

Considered one of the best coffee products, the beans produced are of premium quality, leaving the taste of the unique feature of the country it is manufactured from.

Nespresso will be investing a grand total of R160 million in the programme from 2019- 2023.

It will keep growing with its higher purpose of reviving the lost treasures or, in this case, the lost origin of authentic coffee.
