Retired Paediatrician Dr Pieter Jooste has used his decades of knowledge to create two apps to help South African parents understand when to take their children to the doctor.

Kimberly, South Africa (13 May 2024)—Dr Pieter Jooste retired in 2020 after over thirty years as a Paediatrician. To stay busy, he picked up coding and turned his skills into two apps intended to empower parents regarding when to seek medical attention for their children.

The result of his efforts is two comprehensive apps called ‘Baby Health 0-2 Months’ and ‘Child Health 2-60 Months’. Pieter made these apps, available for free on the App Store and Play Store.

They are designed to be a parent’s ally in identifying when their child needs medical attention. Accompanied by the website childhealthforall.com, which offers further support and a blog, these resources aim to educate and inform parents about the crucial signs and symptoms to watch for in their children’s development.

“After over three decades of serving the youngest members of our community in Kimberley, I retired in 2020 with a new mission: to empower parents with knowledge. The transition from paediatrician to programmer was fueled by a stark reality I encountered too often—children presenting for medical help later than they should.

Determined to bridge this gap, I embarked on a journey to learn coding and develop tools that could guide parents in making timely decisions for their children’s health.”

Pieter shares that the story of these apps was not just about technological innovation; it’s about the pursuit of a world where no child’s health concern goes unnoticed or untreated due to a lack of accessible information.

So whether you are a first-time parent, a soon-to-be mom, or this isn’t your first rodeo, you can find the links to the app below.
