The Santa Shoebox Project team pledges help desk has opened for 2022 and those wanting to pledge 20 boxes or more, can now get their information.
South Africa (01 August 2022) – Each year, South Africans are given the opportunity to gift a box of goodies to a child in need; that child then gets to open the box during the festive season. This is done each year, thanks to Santa Shoebox Project!
The Santa Shoebox Project was started in 2006 as a way for people to provide gifts to children who often go without during the festive season. The first roll-out saw just 180 gift boxes distributed to children in need. In 2020, that number crossed the 1 million mark.
The Project, which is now in its 17th year, is an inspiring community initiative that collects uniquely personalised gifts for underprivileged children. Equally, the project is about parents teaching their own children the Joy of Giving.
Everyone gets involved, from corporate businesses to groups of friends and individuals. Everyone who gets involved makes an incredible effort to give the very best boxes. For example, in 2019, a young man was gifted driving lessons as part of his box. The gesture brought everyone to tears!
Many groups get together to make up 20 or more boxes each year. This is done to make a more significant impact and to bring down the cost of the boxes. The Santa Shoebox team have a process that helps people who wish to pledge more boxes.
With team pledges open, now is the time to start rallying friends, family or your company to get the numbers up to 20.
“Today our Team Pledge Help Desk opens! We’re here to link your pledge of 20 Shoeboxes or more to underprivileged children in and around your community. Individual pledging opens as always on 01 September.
Our theme for 2022, Share The Love, encourages you to include a duplicate item in your Santa Shoebox, enabling the receiver of your generosity to also be a giver. The beneficiary child will be empowered to give a gift of a brand new item to a best friend, cousin or neighbour – Sharing The Love even further and amplifying your reach.
A Team Pledge is a great way to build team spirit and have some fun with colleagues, family or friends.”
