The Santa Shoebox Project is hosting a fun competition in which teams will make up boxes in 67 minutes. The winners will be children in need.
South Africa (08 July 2024) — With Mandela Day just around the corner, many organisations are getting ready to do fun things in the name of our beloved Madiba, with the aim of making a difference in the lives of many. Santa Shoebox Project is hosting a box-building day set up as a fun competition for individuals and corporations.
The goal is to build as many cardboard boxes as possible in 67 minutes. These boxes will be used for the organisation’s virtual Santa Shoebox Drive, which helps them reach more children in need each year.
“We need you! On 18 July, in honour of #MandelaDay, you’re invited to join us as we spend 67 minutes at our warehouse in Athlone, building up flat-packed boxes in support of our Virtual Santa Shoebox drive.
The aim is to build as many boxes as possible in 67 minutes, competing with the other companies and organisations volunteering on the day.
Your entrance fee is a new child’s toy or stationery item. Join us and make a difference!”
The bonus for Santa Shoebox is that they get all the boxes made up for the coming season, and their toy stock is boosted, too. This means more children will get fun toys inside their boxes this Festive Season.

If you, your friends or your company would like to sign up, you can fill in the form here.
The Santa Shoebox Project was started in 2006 as a way for people to provide gifts to children who often go without during the festive season. The first roll-out saw just 180 gift boxes distributed to children in need. In 2020, that number crossed the 1 million mark. To date, 1,226,756 children have been gifted Santa Shoeboxes in South Africa and Namibia.
