Sherwyn Weaich

This incredible South African was just selected to showcase his cuisine at the New York Times International Tourism Convention!

Chef Sherwyn Weaich is representing South Africa and South African cooking in New York to a global audience. He has 10 years of experience and is the perfect person to represent SA overseas.

Sherwyn has cooked on three different continents throughout his career. He is very excited to showcase South African and Durban food trends and speaking about local hotspots in and around the city of Durban. He is humbled to be a part of the convention.

He has accomplished so much for a young chef of his age.

“From my experience, people want to party like a local when they visit a new place, so I’m going to be sharing a few of my favourite hotspots with the audiences, from Eyadini to the Oyster Box and Beverly Hills. I’m going to be sharing Mzansi with the world.

I’ve been the Face of Food for the city of Durban for the fourth consecutive year and named the Youngest Black and Most Influential Chef by Business Insider in Kenya. I have all these titles but simply put, I am blessed and highly favoured by God and I am a proud ambassador of my city and Mzansi”

His food looks stunning and bright. His Instagram is filled with delicious looking meals, many quite indulgent like decadent flapjacks, fig and mascarpone french toast.

His main focus in New York will have more to do with Shisa Nyama. It’s Zulu slang for ‘buy and braai’. It all started in the townships as a way for butcheries to increase their weekend sales. They would let people buy the meat and then braai it for them right there.

We wish you luck in New York Sherwyn, go fly that flag high!
