As the sounds of South Africa continue to beautifully captivate the world, the iconic Carnegie Hall is preparing to host the sounds of our country in a celebration of hope:
Global (22 April 2024) — South Africa’s music scene is slowly, but surely coming into its own overseas. In the past year alone, we’ve popped the champagne for Black Coffee who became the first South African DJ to play Madison Square Garden, been on the pulse of Tyla’s rocket to stardom (which included a Grammy take), celebrated numerous local performers who made golden-buzzer history, and relished in new talents who have lit up some of the world’s most popular stages. It’s safe to say that the world is celebrating the sounds of South Africa more than ever—and now, it’s Carnegie Hall that’s set to lead the celebration!
For Carnegie Hall’s 24-25 season, the spotlight will be on South African artists, including the legendary Ndlovu Youth Choir, cellist Abel Selacoe (not without his Bantu Ensemble), jazz talent Nduduzo Makhatini and Jesse Clegg and Zolani Mahola who will join forces to share their gift of song.
“Presenting South African music and artists has long been a priority for Carnegie Hall,” Carnegie Hall, one of the world’s most sought-after performance grounds shared.
Curated in light of South Africa’s 30 years of democracy celebration, the sounds of South Africa are set to encompass musical excellence, as well as notes of hope that so many of our artists represent both in their music, and through their achievements.
