South African Independent horror film ‘8’ also known as “The Soul Collector” has won 3 international film awards and the win has made South Africans really proud.
South Africa (08 December 2020) – South African Independent horror film ‘8’ also known as “The Soul Collector” just won 3 awards at the 11th British Horror Film festival in London. We first featured the news that the film had been picked up by Netflix back in May of this year.
“8” won Best Feature Film, Best Music and Best Actor (Tshamano Sebe) on Monday 7 December. The win follows on the heels of recently signing a UK & Polish distribution deal which brings the World Distribution list to 10 territories, including the USA, Russia and Germany. South African’s can watch 8 on NETFLIX.
8 tells the story of William Ziel & his fragmented families return to a farm which he inherited from his estranged father in an attempt to start a new life after becoming bankrupt. Lazarus, the farmhand (played by Sebe) soon reappears after William, Sarah and adopted daughter Mary arrives on the farm. Mary and Lazarus develops a strong bond but Lazarus carries a dark secret that constantly haunts him, the demon child with its insatiable appetite for human souls that weighs heavily in the sack he carries everywhere he goes.

8 was produced through Cape Town-based production company ‘Man Makes a Picture’ (with Rolling Thunder) and is the second in a slate of independent features from the company. Their first film, a war drama called “THE RECCE” was released in 2018 and will also be released Worldwide in February 2021.
