A South African olive oil shines amid the world’s best, claiming second place and beating out scores of entries from rolling hills around the world!
Global (07 May 2025) — A South African olive oil has once again risen to the top ranks of the world’s best!
The Klein Karoo’s De Rustica Olive Estate is relishing in a moment of pride thanks to its extra virgin olive oil offering that has claimed not only a Top 100 or Top 10 ranking but second place!
The acclaim comes by way of EVOOLEUM 2025—an international competition now in its 10th year. EVOOLEUM sees extra virgin olive oils from around the world entered (there were around 1,000 entries from 26 countries) and is notorious for its rigidity when it comes to assessing the quality of the samples shared.
According to the EVOOLEUM team, the process works as follows: “A most exclusive and prestigious group of expert tasters worldwide is responsible for assessing the organoleptic quality of the samples presented, from which comes the exclusive TOP100 of the best virgins in the world in each campaign, as well as the best in their different categories, varieties and countries.”
De Rustica’s Coratina collection earned a superb second with an incredible score of 96 points.
Not to mention, this isn’t the estate’s first rodeo at the winner’s table either. In 2023, another entry also won big with a score of 97 points—proving that South Africa is moving in swiftly to a scene dominated by Mediterranean communities.
