The producers found the South African song after apparently searching through thousands!
Cape Town, South Africa (01 August 2022) – A South African song was selected from thousands to feature as an integral part of an Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore movie.
‘Blended’ may have been released in 2014, but Donovan Copley from Hot Water just received a photo from Adam Sandler holding a thank you gift from the band to the Hollywood star!
‘Blended’ marked the third comedy collaboration between stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, following their successful onscreen pairings in the hit romantic comedies ’50 First Dates’ and ‘The Wedding Singer.’
“After a disastrous blind date, single parents Lauren (Barrymore) and Jim (Sandler) agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week.”
The producers found Hot Water’s song ‘Wamkelekile’ after apparently searching through thousands of South African songs. The producer, Kevin Grady, pitched the song to Adam Sandler and director Frank Coraci and they loved it.
“I really wanted to find a song that embodied South Africa, the story, and the journey of the characters within the story. I think Wamkelekile not only does that, but it’s also a fun, catchy and playful song that people just love,” Kevin Grady explained.
The movie has been watched over 120 million times, and Hot Water’s “hot track” has been streamed over 8 million times in every country worldwide except four.
Copley says he wrote Wamkelekile to welcome people to the spirit of South Africa.
“I’m in awe of how the song has gone out and fulfilled its purpose. I love South Africa and really want to share that love through my music.”
