The Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre draws its motivation from everyone who supports their efforts in saving animals.

Soweto, South Africa (24 March 2024) – The Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (SARAC) shared what keeps them going. And its the support of their community that helps them most!

SARAC has come a long way since it was founded by former SPCA inspector Jerry Selwane in 2011. The team has grown and to this day, Jerry’s Rangers help keep an eye on animals in the entire Soweto area.

Jerry set up the Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (SARAC) to help educate the community about animal welfare. He used all of his life savings to make a difference. Over the years, he has seen great success in the change of attitude towards animal care.

One of the programmes he runs at SARAC is called “Jerry’s Rangers”. Being a non-profit, Jerry has to rely on the help of his community to find out about animal abuse and neglect cases. This is where his rangers come in. Jerry trains young men and women to keep an eye out for animals in the community. Should there be any problems, they report their findings to Jerry, who then jumps into action.

SARAC works to educate and uplift the community. They are showing the importance of having compassion for animals. Jerry’s rangers all come from difficult backgrounds where they have very little. They work closely with Jerry and become role models for other children within their sectors.

“The difference that we make in the lives of millions of animals, is the only motivation that keeps us going.

We are forever grateful of the people that generously support our cause, you are the reason our doors are still open

It is hard but we keep on moving forward”

It’s not only Jerry, his team or the Rangers that help make a difference; its the people who continue to donate to the cause or volunteer their time. It’s the difference that makes, that keeps everyone motivated to keep fighting for animals in need.

You can find out more about SARAC and how to support their needs via Facebook or the website.
