A creative couple preparing for their wedding bought over 100 books from the Sandton SPCA Book Nook as a clever way to display their seating arrangements.

Sandton, South Africa (30 July 2024) – Jacqui Thompson, a Sandton SPCA Book Nook volunteer, shared the lovely news that a soon-to-be-married couple supported the shop by purchasing over 100 books for their wedding. The creative couple have a lovely idea for their seating chart and pre-loved books were the perfect option.

Kayla and James are getting ready for their nuptials and they are using books for their seating chart. Each guest will find a book with their name on it and the number of their table.

They sourced affordable books from the SPCA, and when the Book Nook hosted a sale, they jumped at the opportunity to get all the books they needed.

“I run a bookshop for the Sandton SPCA. Recently, we had a faaaabulous sale that made some decent money for the SPCA. At the sale, I met this young couple, James and Kayla. They were buying over a hundred books (naturally, that caught my attention).

Turns out they are getting married soon and instead of ye olde traditional wedding seating plan at the Reception, they will have a pretty bookcase filled with books beautifully wrapped by them and displaying the guest name and table number on the spine.

They also plan to attach a note saying that the take-home gift was bought with consideration and to support an animal charity.

Seems like a terrific idea and way better than dusty pink and white almonds! Both expressed their desire for the wedding to be meaningful. Sigh! Makes all of us at the Sandton SPCA very happy!”

Wedding guests will each be able to take their book home to enjoy after the wedding, knowing that it has helped an animal or two in need. If you are planning a wedding and need items for decor, why not visit your local charity shop? You can find our list of shops here.
