The SPCA has come up with a way to make up for their cancelled events; they are challenging everyone to run at home for charity.

Cape Town, South Africa (08 April 2020) – The lockdown was set to save lives and its working! However, it has meant that many charitable events had to be cancelled. These events are huge for charities and often bring in enough to carry their expenses for some time.

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has launched a virtual marathon to help make up for their cancelled events. The marathon campaign is called “How big is your heart?”.

“We need your help to raise funds for the SPCA to compensate for the income we will be losing as a result of the cancellation of the many sporting events in which we normally participate and of course to give our Team SPCA members something to do while they are in lockdown.

“We want participants to run in a heart shape to represent that their hearts are with all the animals that are being impacted by the ripple effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes surrenders, abandonments and those who may suffer as families prioritise their own needs and their own wellbeing.”

All you need to do to get involved is put on your fitness tracking device and run in a heart shape on your property. Then screenshot the heart you ran and share it on social media.

“If you don’t have a tracking device, you are welcome to get as creative as you like by depicting your love for animals in your “run” you can map out a heart on your lawn or run to the sound of a heartbeat – creative licence is yours! “

You can join the marathon by donating via GivenGain here or via their website here. Find out more about the event below.
