Regional SpringBots teams shone at the National Robotics Competition, uniting youth across SA and building a brighter STEM future.
Sandton, South Africa (01 July 2025) – The SpringBots have expanded in the best way! Moving from a small team format to a national one, and seeing the founding of 100 teams across five provinces. This was done to help more children access coding and robotics skills, all the while promoting a greater sense of competition and excellence.
The original robotics team was established in 2018 and now represents SA on the international stage of all things STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Over the past few months, a total of 100 teams have been established in Free State, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.
“This year has been so exciting. We embarked on starting 100 robotics teams this year, and we did so in 5 provinces around SA. From February this year we launched in the provinces, travelling each week to deliver kits and spread STEM and robotics to underserved communities.
We then held regional events in the 5 provinces, and hosted the National Event on the 16th June here at the World of Yamaha Theatre in Sandton. The provinces we worked in are Free State, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.
At SpringBots South Africa we believe that Talent is dispersed equally but opportunities are not. It is our responsibility to create these opportunities.” – Roxanne Reddy

The regional teams were founded, cool names created, robotics and coding skills shared, and then they competed in their own competitions, all in an effort to earn a place at the national event.
The national event brought together the best of each province, putting STEM-enthused students in a competition that fostered innovation and quick, creative thinking.
Hosted on Youth Day, the inaugural event named several winners.
