For English speaking South Africans, Afrikaans oral presentations can be one of the most horrible memories from their schooling years… so obviously, the Kiffness has written a song about it which has gone to number 1 on the South African iTunes chart.
Cape Town, South Africa (24 August 2020) – David Scott from The Kiffness is no stranger to controversy; he has had public fights with Woolworths over body shaming, taken on festivals that don’t pay, and now the singer is lending his creative talent to Afrikaans orals.
For English speaking South Africans, Afrikaans oral presentations can be one of the most horrible memories from their schooling years… so obviously, the Kiffness has written a song about it which has gone to number 1 on the South African iTunes chart.
Following the success of The Kiffness’ Lockdown Parodies, David has decided to release an original Afrikaans song, featuring his wife Jüte as “Mevrou”. The song has done incredibly well since it’s release on Friday this week. In just two days, the song reached #1 on the iTunes South Africa pop charts & the music video has racked up over 250k views across Facebook, Youtube & TikTok.
“Lockdown has given me the opportunity to reflect on my life & work through some of the childhood trauma which has held me back from realising my full potential as a human. One specific trauma which I have ignored for far too long is Afrikaans Orals, so I made an Afrikaans pop song about it, and I’m so grateful that my wife Jüte was able to help me through it.”
One of the best things about releasing this song is that my actual Afrikaans teacher from high school (Mevrou du Toit) saw the song & left this amazing comment on Facebook.
